Common questions
- Why can't I beat par? Par is the true shortest path through the dictionary, computed before the puzzle ships. It can be matched, never beaten. That is the fairness promise: no luck, no hidden information.
- I lost my streak. Streak freezes cover missed days automatically; you earn one for every seven solves. If iCloud is on, your streak also carries to a new device.
- A word was rejected. Gild accepts any word in the public-domain ENABLE list. Proper nouns, abbreviations, and hyphenated words are not included.
- Restore Gild Pro. Settings → Gild Pro → Restore Purchases. Pro is a one-time purchase tied to your Apple ID.
- When does the next puzzle arrive? At midnight, your local time. The countdown on the win panel shows exactly when.
Heritage
Lewis Carroll invented the puzzle in 1877 and called it Doublets; his first was LEAD → GOLD. Gild is an original work. Doublets as a name and a puzzle form belongs to everyone.
